Honeybee Research Institute

ts/c Architektur is a Heidelberg-based practice working across a range of building types, including the redevelopment of underused sites. In collaboration with Marcel Heller, the firm was selected to design the new Honeybee Research Institute in Oberursel (ca. €13 million) through an architectural competition with 72 participating teams. The prefabricated timber ensemble brings together spaces for bee research, teaching, beekeeping, and administration. Also included is an exclusive “flight room,” a unique laboratory where researchers can study bee behavior under controlled conditions, including variations in light and temperature.

After the permitting phase, I led the architectural documentation and coordination with structural and mechanical engineers as well as landscape architects. Besides drafting the entire architectural set, I performed all quality checks on shop drawings to keep the prefab timber structure on schedule for production, incorporated German workplace regulations (ASR), and worked directly with the trades to resolve issues during construction.
