‘A Clean Break’ was an exhibition in Philadelphia for “modern prefab architecture and high design, low-waste innovations for the urban environment”, and as Studio 804, we were invited to design a display for our innovative, green architecture.

In the design of the display, we wanted to show a part of our Kansas agricultural heritage, so we took our inspiration from a traditional irrigation machine - long, horizontal element sitting atop narrow, steel legs. The wood used for the horizontal beam is Douglas Fir recycled from an army ammunitions building we deconstructed and remilled, while the vertical structural members are welded steel tube. The display holds printed presentation boards showing images of the past 804 projects illuminated by cantilevered LED fixtures. The ‘display horses’ were constructed in our Lawrence warehouse, deconstructed and transported to Philadelphia for exhibit, where it shared real estate with the likes of Alchemy Architects, Elemental, and Gans Studio.
