project sub_PLANT was the result of my internal guerrilla street artist trying to break free – juxtaposing the “what is” (built environment) with the “what could be” (built environment + urban vegetation) and adding a hint of queerness: plants in potholes. Seeing as I was back in Lawrence, native Kansas plants were placed in potholes located in the alleyways flanking Massachusetts Street, the city’s main thoroughfare. These scenes were then photographed in such a way as to highlight the beauty of something that, despite seeming out of place, should become commonplace: vegetation in an urban environment.
